Veterinary Echocardiograms

Advanced Cardiac Imaging for Your Pet’s Heart Health

Heart disease in pets is more common than many owners realize—and early detection is key to managing it effectively. At Hobart Animal Clinic, we provide in-house echocardiograms (heart ultrasounds) to assess heart structure, function, and blood flow in real time.

This non-invasive imaging technique allows our veterinarians to diagnose heart conditions quickly and accurately, so your pet can receive the specialized care they need.

What Is an Echocardiogram?

An echocardiogram is a diagnostic tool that uses ultrasound waves to create a live image of the heart. It shows us how the heart chambers and valves are functioning, how blood is flowing, and whether there are signs of:

  • Congenital heart defects

  • Valve disease

  • Cardiomyopathy

  • Fluid buildup

  • Irregular heart rhythms (arrhythmias)

Unlike an X-ray, an echocardiogram provides real-time insight into how the heart is actually working.

When Is an Echocardiogram Needed?

Our veterinarians may recommend an echocardiogram if your pet is experiencing:

  • Coughing or breathing difficulties
  • Exercise intolerance
  • Heart murmurs or abnormal heartbeats
  • Fainting or collapse
  • Suspected heart disease due to breed or age

Echocardiograms are also useful for pre-anesthetic evaluations and monitoring known heart conditions over time.
