Our Veterinarians

Dr. Greg Baisden, DVM – Owner

Dr. Greg Baisden, DVM – Owner

A 2006 graduate of the Purdue University School of Veterinary Medicine, Dr. Baisden found a home at Hobart Animal Clinic in 2009. He has a variety of interests when it comes to veterinary medicine including surgery, internal medicine, and radiology. He has extensive training in areas of radiology and ultrasound as well as endoscopy. In December 2013, Dr. Baisden married the love of his life Lori, in the gorgeous Rocky Mountains of Beaver Creek, Colorado. They share their home in Westville with Lori’s son Angelo, their daughter Arianna, and their 4 German Shorthair Pointers; Cooper, Addison, Sophie, Benson and a Golden Retriever named Noah. Aspen is their furry feline companion and newest addition to the household. In his free time, Dr. Baisden enjoys doing anything he can outdoors. He enjoys hunting and fishing with his stepson Angelo. His German Shorthair’s love to hunt upland birds like pheasants in the fall. Skiing, camping and hiking are just a few other outdoor activities he enjoys.

Dr. Jeremy Cartagena, DVM – Owner

Dr. Jeremy Cartagena, DVM – Owner

Dr. Cartagena, a Hobart native, started working at Hobart Animal Clinic in 2004 as part of the kennel staff. He continued working at Hobart Animal Clinic through veterinary school and joined our staff as a veterinarian after graduating from Purdue University in 2014. He returned to Hobart right after graduation, where he currently lives.

He has many interests in veterinary medicine. His strongest interest is orthopedic surgery. He also really enjoys canine physical therapy and rehabilitation, canine sports medicine, and small animal reproduction. He is in the process of becoming certified as a canine physical therapy and rehabilitation practitioner.

Outside the veterinary environment, Dr. Cartagena loves spending time with his wife and daughter. He really enjoys doing things outdoors; his favorite activities include hunting, fishing, and training his dogs for hunt tests. He is an active member of the Kankakee River Hunting Retriever Club, which promotes good, ethical bird dog training for retrieving companions. In the fall, Dr. Cartagena enjoys taking his two Labradors (Scout, Spry) and Golden Retriever (Breeze) hunting.

Dr. Ashley Bernacchi, DVM – Owner

Dr. Ashley Bernacchi, DVM – Owner

Dr. Bernacchi is a Northwest Indiana native who attended Indiana University for her undergraduate studies. She put away her Hoosier pride in 2011 when she was accepted to Purdue University’s College of Veterinary Medicine. After graduation, she started working as an associate at Hobart Animal Clinic in 2015.

She loves working with animals and finds joy that no day at work is ever the same. Her interests include internal medicine, ultrasound, endoscopy, soft tissue surgery, and emergency medicine. Outside of work she keeps busy with her 2 children and 2 dogs. She loves to run, ride bikes, and stay active with her children.

Dr. Suzanne Regan, DVM

Dr. Suzanne Regan, DVM

A graduate from the University of Illinois, she has worked for Hobart Animal Clinic since 2001. Dr. Regan is fascinated by veterinary medicine and writes about some of her “pet topics”–preventive medicine, in particular–on our blog. She is only available to see clients on Saturdays, spending the rest of her week attending to three lively children and their various pursuits. She is also a Girl Scout leader and volunteer at the grade school, with a special interest in community service projects. Her hobbies are gardening, reading thrillers, and making the world a better place.

Dr. Holly Masepohl, DVM

Dr. Holly Masepohl, DVM

Dr. Masepohl is a 1994 graduate from the College of Veterinary Medicine at Purdue University. She has worked at Hobart Animal Clinic since October 2004.

Dr. Cyndi Hatala, DVM

Dr. Cyndi Hatala, DVM

Dr. Hatala is a 2005 graduate of the Purdue University School of Veterinary Medicine. She has worked at the Hobart Animal Clinic since 1998, starting as a doctor in 2005. Her interests include soft tissue surgery and internal medicine. She and her husband Bill, who is also a graduate of the Purdue School of Veterinary Medicine, have 3 children and 3 cats. In her free time she enjoys sports and travel.

Dr. April Gast, DVM

Dr. April Gast, DVM

Dr. April Gast is a 2005 graduate of the College of Veterinary Medicine at Purdue University. She has worked at Hobart Animal Clinic since 2010. She enjoys reading, baking, hiking, and spending time with her family and dogs.

Dr. Laura Beyer, DVM

Dr. Beyer earned both her Bachelor of Science degree in Zoology and her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine degree from Michigan State University in 1987 and 1991, respectively. She grew up in Grand Blanc, Michigan, then moved to Illinois after graduation, where she spent 18 years practicing veterinary medicine in a large and busy emergency clinic in the city of Chicago. Dr. Beyer has also spent many hours doing relief work in various general practices as well as several other emergency practices around the Chicago and Northwest Indiana regions. She now joins Hobart Animal Clinic after working in an emergency facility in Traverse City, Michigan for the last 4 years. She is excited to become a team member of the Hobart Animal Clinic Emergency and Critical Care team, as well as bringing her experience and knowledge to the patients of the Hobart, Indiana region.

In her spare time Dr. Beyer enjoys sailing on her 30-foot sailboat out of South Haven, Michigan. She also enjoys skiing and snowboarding, as well as scuba-diving, camping and hiking. Travel is another hobby, which she enjoys as much as she can, and has spent time in places such as Zimbabwe, Peru, Australia, and New Zealand. She enjoys sharing her home and life with her significant other, Craig, her Pit-Hound mix Skipper, and 3 feline friends Homer, Barney, and Maggie.

Dr. Amy Wozniak, DVM

Dr. Amy Wozniak, DVM

Dr. Wozniak was raised in South Bend, IN. She attended Purdue University for her undergraduate studies and graduated from Purdue’s School of Veterinary Medicine in 1994. Since then she has worked in small animal practices in both Illinois and Indiana, emphasizing the importance of good preventative care. She enjoys spending time with her family, reading and studying gemology in her off time. Currently, she is owned by her Puggle, Griffen, and enjoys taking him on walks and fishing trips.

Dr. Carly Stevens, DVM

Dr. Carly Stevens, DVM

Dr. Stevens was born and raised in northern Indiana. She is a 2017 graduate of Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine, and her interests include soft tissue surgery and ophthalmology. In her free time Dr. Stevens enjoys running and spoiling her dog and two cats.

Dr. Molly Carr, DVM

Dr. Molly Carr, DVM

Dr. Carr, a Hobart native, started working at Hobart Animal Clinic in 2013 as kennel staff and then as an assistant. She graduated from Purdue College of Veterinary Medicine in 2023 and returned to Hobart.

Her favorite aspects of veterinary medicine include canine sports medicine and rehabilitation and emphasizing the importance of preventative medicine. She plans to pursue further training and certification in canine sports medicine and rehabilitation.

Outside of the clinic, she enjoys spending time with her husband and their animals (pit mix- Leroy, labs- Lacey and Gatlin, pointer- Maddie, cat- Pickett, and lots of chickens). She also enjoys soccer, running, reading, scrap booking, and traveling.

Dr. Matthew Sharp, DVM

Dr. Matthew Sharp, DVM

Dr. Sharp graduated from Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2011. He completed an internship in small animal medicine and surgery at Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine in 2012. Dr. Sharp started at Hobart Animal Clinic in May of 2018. His professional interests include internal medicine, cardiology and soft tissue surgery.

Dr. Katie Sands, DVM

Dr. Katie Sands, DVM

Dr. Katie attended Purdue University for both her undergraduate degree and Doctorate of
Veterinary Medicine degree. She started working at Hobart Animal Clinic in 2018 and has been there ever since. Her veterinary interests include emergency and preventative medicine and she strives to improve client communication. When not at work, her hobbies include outdoor activities such as hiking, kayaking, and managing her small hobby farm and garden. She loves caring for her dogs, cats, goats, chickens, and children and would love to help you with your pets too.

Dr. Danny Schaefer, DVM

Dr. Danny Schaefer, DVM

Dr. Schaefer earned his bachelor degree in biology with a minor in chemistry from Indiana State University. He graduated from Purdue University School of Veterinary Medicine in 2018. He started working at Hobart Animal Clinic immediately after earning his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine. He is fear-free certified and enjoys all aspects of veterinary medicine, but is most skilled at soft tissue surgery, emergency medicine, and preventative care. In his free time, Dr. Schaefer spends most of his time with his pets, wife and children. He has 3 Australian Cattle Dogs, 2 cats, several koi fish, a house full of plants, a few Nigerian Dwarf goats, and too many chickens. He enjoys the great outdoors and nature. His favorite activities are kayaking, canoeing,camping, hiking, and fishing with his family and dogs. He loves helping pets and their people and saving lives.

Dr. Zack Sayre

Dr. Zack Sayre

Dr. Zack Sayre was born and raised in Indianapolis, IN. He attended Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology and graduated with an undergraduate degree in Chemical Engineering.

After working in the field for a year, he went back to school to pursue his dream of becoming a veterinarian. He graduated from Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2025 and started working at Hobart Animal Clinic shortly after. His interests in veterinary medicine include soft tissue surgery, ultrasound, and cardiology.

In his free time, Dr. Sayre enjoys spending time outdoors with his lab-mix, Felix. They enjoy running, backpacking, canoeing, and hiking (especially at the Dunes). His other hobbies include pottery, tending to his plants and fish tanks, sports (volleyball, pickleball, and softball), and spending time with his family.
