Veterinary Endoscopy
Minimally Invasive Internal Diagnostics for Pets
At Hobart Animal Clinic, we’re proud to offer advanced endoscopy services to diagnose and treat internal conditions without the need for invasive surgery. Endoscopy is a minimally invasive diagnostic procedure that allows our veterinarians to visualize and examine the inside of your pet’s body using a flexible fiber-optic camera.
This technology helps us quickly identify the source of problems such as vomiting, diarrhea, chronic coughing, difficulty swallowing, or unexplained weight loss—often without the need for exploratory surgery.
How Endoscopy Works
During an endoscopic procedure, a thin, flexible tube with a small camera and light is gently inserted into your pet’s body, typically through the mouth, nose, or rectum. This allows our veterinarians to examine areas like the:
- Esophagus
- Stomach
- Small intestine
- Colon
In some cases, we can also take tissue biopsies or remove foreign objects during the procedure—avoiding the risks and recovery time of open surgery.
When Is Endoscopy Recommended?
Endoscopy is typically recommended when:
- A pet has persistent gastrointestinal symptoms (vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite)
- Foreign object ingestion is suspected
- Chronic respiratory symptoms are present
- A diagnosis requires tissue samples from inside the body
Because it’s less invasive, endoscopy is generally safer and requires shorter recovery times than exploratory surgery.
